BAHIR DAR ENVIRONMENT AND FOREST RESEARCH CENTER

Bahir Dar Environment and Forest Research Center (BEFRC) is one of the newly established federal research centers under the Ethiopian Environment and Forest Research Institute (EEFRI). BEFRC is located in Bahir Dar city 565 km Northwest of Addis Ababa, Ethiopia. Its mandate is to conduct scientific research on the following areas: Plantation and agroforestry, forest resources utilization, forest protection, ecosystem management, climate, and environmental pollution management.

The Center also disseminates research findings and establishes partnerships and cooperation with different stakeholders. Similarly, the Center undertakes the adoption, generation, and promotion of appropriate environment and forest technologies that are important for sustainable management, utilization, and development of forest and forest-related resources in northwestern parts of Amhara and Benishangul-Gumuze regional states.

Furthermore, enhancing the capacity of the environment and forest sector could potentially contribute towards alleviating most of the current challenges related to forest, climate change, and other natural resources management. BEFRC’s delivery mechanisms to users are by providing training and advisory services; pre-extension technology demonstrations and pre-scaling up activities; and publishing and dispensing pamphlets, research results; and organizing field days, workshops, etc.
